Smart indoor climate control for the 21st century (phase 1)

As a homeowner living in the era of climate change, I've become acutely aware of how primitive and inefficient my modern home's Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system really is.

I've tried to compensate for how its outdated design controls the climate in my family's living space by manually adjusting its operation from the limited thermostat, running around opening and closing windows twice a day to help bring-in cooler or warmer outside air, exhaust stale inside air, or even keep undesirable air out of our home.

In an era where every aspect of our lives has been improved by smart devices, residential HVAC appears to have stayed stuck in the last century. Even our automobile climate control systems have improved more than the space where we live. After thinking through my personal experience of owner a few homes in warmer and colder climates, and researching what's available in the market from leading residential HVAC industry manufactures, I've come to the conclusion that these products could benefit from a more flexible, feature-rich fundamental design.

I don't want to give away too much proprietary information that might jeopardize my small company's long-term viability, but in this initial phase, I plan to dedicate my company's efforts to develop the necessary technologies to produce a prototype that will demonstrate how such a system can improve our quality of life in our modern homes while reducing its total cost of ownership. This will allow me to make more accurate plans for subsequent phases.

The funds will primarily be used to allow me to concentrate on this project on a full-time basis, instead of tinkering nights & weekends as I've been doing up to now. I have over 20 years of broad personal & professional experience in the embedded computer system industry, and plan to make this my permanent occupation, eventually bringing on help as my company's financial situation allows.
