About the Winter Campaign

Sleepin aBag is a Winter Campaign that aims to distribute 1000 Sleeping Bags to homeless people around Johannesburg this winter. We wanted to distribute blankets but came to understand that they are not easy to carry around, so we then came up with Sleepin aBag Campaign as sleeping bags are easy to roll up and put in the sleeping bag’s bag since homeless people are always on the move.

Due to limited spaces in homeless shelters and many people living on the street often find themselves sleeping in extreme cold during the winter season. We don't have much to offer as far as shelter however what we plan to do is enable 1000 homeless people to keep warm during winter by distributing at least 1000 Sleeping Bags for them to sleep in.

We are just two friends that have lived on the streets before and we know how it feels to sleep on the streets during the winter cold and rain if you don’t have something to cover yourself or a place to hold for cover. We are asking if any of you could join us in this Winter Campaign to raise funds to get 1000 Sleeping Bags or by donating an old Sleeping Bag you are not using to make this Winter Campaign possible.

The Goal

Our hearts desire is to distribute 1000 Sleeping Bags to homeless people or more (if possible) around the City of Johannesburg and we would like to do this on Saturday the 30th June 2018.

We don't have much to do this however time and heart to see this through, so we would to like to ask if any of you would be able to donate a Sleeping Bag or R170.00 to purchase a new one.

Purchasing of Sleeping Bags

After looking for wholesalers that sells Sleeping Bags at reasonable price, we come across an organization (Street Sleeper) based in Cape Town that makes Homeless Sleeping Bags from upcycled advertising billboards and we thought this will work well with our Winter Campaign.

They sell the Homeless Sleeping Bags for R170.00 and by supporting to help homeless people in Johannesburg it will enable them to do more with the funds.
