What is SipSafe?
SipSafe is a non-profit aimed to increase water quality awareness through the union of open data, expanding technologies, and well thought out design. SipSafe's roots began with scandal of the Flint Michigan water crisis, and are driven by the Civic & Gov Tech Movement.
What does SipSafe Do?
We have begun to bring our vision to life by building an online and mobile app. The SipSafe app currently tracks and visualizes the data surrounding water contamination in California Public Schools, specifically looking at Lead, Arsenic, Nitrate(No3), Mercury, and Radium, and alerts you when the levels of contamination begin to reach a dangerous level. This keeps the public aware about what's in their water, and can aid in finding and fighting the issues of poor water quality before they really get out of hand.
Not only do we want to combine data and technology to create a cleaner tomorrow, but we want to teach others to do this as well. As a group of individuals skilled in the art of design and development we want to share our knowledge. More specifically, we would like to begin an after school program focused on teaching young children about technology, design, open data, and the civic & gov movement.
How Can You Help?
But that is only the beginning, and we need your help. The SipSafe app is almost complete, but with additional funding we can make it even better by looking at and tracking new contaminants, implementing additional sets of data, and expanding our app to other areas of the world.
What Will Funding Be Used For?
We are asking for funding to help us:
- Design & Development work in order to finish and expand the SipSafe App and keep the public aware of what's in their water.
- Purchase resources and materials to teach young children about technology, design, open data, and the civic & gov movement.
But why should you really help fund SipSafe?
