Sing For Our Planet is a project that I devised to spread messages of peace, nature, and the environment to a wide audience through community choirs, while in the process, bringing contemporary music to new audiences around the country.
I will be composing the music, along with 6 other composers selected from a call for scores, to make a songbook. These songs will be performed by several community choirs in 2014/15, culminating in a massed choirs performance in 2015.
The text for my 20 minute suite will come from Greenpeace campaigns. I am delighted to be working with them and promoting the outstanding work that they do for our planet.
I have won a PRS Foundation Women Make Music award for this project, which I am extremely grateful for. Without this support, it would not be able to go ahead.
However, I still need to raise additional funds to cover a workshop day for all the choir directors, professional fees for the workshop leader and call for scores judges, travel expenses for all the composers to attend the workshop, marketing, promotion, publicity, etc.....
By contributing to this campaign, you are helping to create a body of new music, accessible to anyone who wants to sing; support emerging composers; raise awareness of environmental issues; and inspire people to make a positive change.
Thank you so much!
