Campaign Story
Sinepanghalina is a group of young and passionate filmmakers from Metro Manila. It started out as a student film production composed of only 30 students. But as we aim to produce a new material to compete inside and outside of the Philippines, our production team expanded to 60 individuals, both students and graduates from Far Eastern University, Manila.
Ralph Quincena, 21, a graduate of Communication Arts, is the big wheel of Sinepanghalina being the director, writer and editor. He defined film as “an expression of life. A visual reflection of the human condition. A perfect mixture of imagination and experiences, dreams and nightmares, and people's emotions.”
His passion and love for storytelling and unending desire to work with wonderful people are what drives him to keep making films. “I have always loved telling good stories, so the moment I realized how capable I am to make something I've always admired to do, I never stopped. Filmmaking maybe physically, mentally, emotionally and socially draining, but it's become part of me and what I have to do.” He added.
Sharing his inspirations in doing films, he mentioned his fears and the stories of the helpless. He elaborated, “In making films, I learned that life's misery can be used to make something life-changing. That films that show the real horrors of life can help in opening the eyes of people to the real problems of the world. Through film, being almost limitless, I am able to express my ideas and advocacies through the genres of Horror, Suspense & Thriller. Also, experiencing how little actions, such as making a short film, impacts society in a such a big way, really inspires me to make more films.”
Furthermore, Sinepanghalina comprises of multitalented individuals from different production teams which have also produced award-winning films led by producer and sound designer Zheina David, line producer Trixie Torres, director of Photography Bob Guariña, production designers Alexy Bermundo & Andrea Rigor, editor Miguel Esmeralda, musical scorer Athena Respicio, associate producer Wency Bautizado, and casting manager Fritzgeraldeane Dizon.
Makers of the multi-awarded films, “Ma?” and “Dungaw (Look Through)”, which garnered a lot of local and international awards and recognitions, are now in the process of creating another great story.
Our current film’s advocacy is quite a secret for now, because telling it would reveal so much about our new project. We would rather tell you privately or let it completely surprise you. But here’s a little teaser from our director saying, “this film shows how some people's new beginnings are some people's end.”
With the ample help and support from the entire crew of Sinepanghalina, we are planning and targeting to join more major local film festivals such as Cinema One Originals, CineFilipino Film Festival, Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, and international film festivals as well.
Hence, we are knocking on your generous hearts to support our passion and love for filmmaking. With the hope of successfully producing our new film, we, young filmmakers with average paying day jobs, some without, are dreaming to pursue this passion of ours full-time someday.
HELP US, YOUTH, BUILD OUR DREAMS AND MAKE IT POSSIBLE.
