Simona’s Brain Tumor Surgery

Update posted by Hristina Yordanova On Apr 24, 2019

Hello everyone! Here is the latest news from me.

We have a clear PET/CT scan, while the most recent MRI scan showed the tumor to have shrunk by 50%. Another MRI scan is scheduled two months from now, and the results will show whether more radiotherapy sessions will be needed or it will be continued observation from there on. I’ll share the news as soon as I have it.

Once again, I want to thank you for all your support, and Happy Easter to those who are about to celebrate!

Hello, dear people!

Simona here.

Let me start by apologizing for the radio silence: I intentionally avoided the computer to spare my eyesight and brain some pressure.

I completed 12-course radiotherapy on January 9 and started gradually lowering my medication dosage, so I expect to recover by mid-February. An MRI brain scan will be scheduled for late March or early April to analyze the results of the treatment. That’s something to look forward to.

Until then, I’ll be focusing on my full physical recovery. Over the past ten days, I’ve been doing physiotherapy to regain my strength since the medication took a toll.

In the next week or two, I expect a date for a PET scan to be set. As for right now, I’m waiting for confirmation.

I want to express my eternal gratitude to each and every one of you for helping me through this extremely difficult period in my life. What you did in a matter of days boggles the mind and was something beyond my wildest expectations! I’ll be forever in your debt!

Thank you!!!

Simona

Hey everyone!

I'm writing with good news. On Friday, Simona successfully went through phase one of her treatment - the brain surgery. We want to thank you all and the brilliant doctors because this was one of the most important steps on the road to getting better, and you all made it possible for her to get through this.

The surgery went well, and the doctors decided to go down the less dangerous path by making small alterations to some important channels in the brain. Simona spent a few days in hospital in order to recover from the surgery, and now she is back home.

Next step we are taking in the treatment of the tumor is radiotherapy. This will be a lengthy and painful process because there are many unpleasant side-effects of the radio treatment, however the outlook is good. We expect the tumor formation to shrink significantly after radiotherapy.

Once again we want to express our enormous gratitude for all of your support and contributions to this campaign. You gave Simona the chance to act fast and start the treatment immediately.

Thank you!

WOW! Simona and I are in disbelief with the support we received from all of you!

In less than four days you wonderful people reached the full amount. We never even imagined this can happen so fast.

Your contributions took a heavy weight off of our minds. We can look towards the future with one less thing to worry about now. I am lost for words and cannot begin to explain how thankful I personally am. And Simona is in a very similar state of mind.

Because we now know what it feels like to need help and to receive it on time we talked about how we want to proceed with any funds left after her recovery. She decided that any money left would be split to go to other people in need. The campaign will stay active and anything you send above this target will go to Cancer Research UK and to the US National Cancer Association.

Once again I cannot begin to express our gratitude!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

P.S: There will be updates when we know the date for the surgery, and on how she is doing after that.

Hello everyone!

I cannot begin to express my gratitude for all your help so far.

Many many thanks to all of you and your irreplaceable support! We managed to gather enough money to supply the necessary medical materials, so that the surgery can be performed as soon as possible.

This update comes straight from the hospital where Simona is currently being supervised by an amazing team of doctors. We expect the surgery to happen by the end of this week!

As soon as we have an exact date I'll post another update.

Once again, thank you all, we never expected to receive so much support in such a short period of time.
