Hi everyone! I am Shubhangi Mishra, a senior year computer science student at Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida (India). My first step of vision becoming a reality came in the form of admission to the graduate program in data science at the prestigious Indiana University, Bloomington.
Growing up as a girl in a middle-class family the opportunities that I got were not at par. Throughout my life, I worked incessantly regarding my education as I believe that it is the best way to realize my dreams. I am the first girl from my family to go for higher education. My father is a government employee and his pay is barely anything compared to the American standards. A large chunk of his salary is spent on the therapy of my younger brother Ayush. He was diagnosed with autism during his childhood, therefore it’s significant for me to take proper care of him in all aspects. My brother has always inspired me to work for the betterment of others, especially for children with special needs. During my undergrad, I worked on a couple of projects such as mental stress detection in children using machine learning algorithms, developed a learning tool for kids using augmented reality besides few others. All these projects mainly were an infusion of the theory of mind concept via the application of machine learning. This substantiated my decision to study deeply about machine learning in psychological research(especially its application in Autism Spectrum Disorder).
I don't want my financial condition to annihilate my dreams. The tuition fee at Indiana is $52000 for two years and doesn’t include other miscellaneous and living expenses which roughly amounts to $20000 considering I will share a room with others off-campus. Monetary compensation for the tuition will be the gateway to my education as the remaining cost will be financed by myself. I sincerely request you to help me fund my education and prove to the world and my community that a person, irrespective of the obstacles has the right to dream and fulfill them if he/she has the determination to do so. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to me.
