Who Are We? Aisling Coomey, Kate O’Donovan and Ellecia Vaughan are in Transition Year in Sacred Heart Secondary School, Clonakilty and have been selected to travel to Ethiopia next February 2015 as part of the Gorta Self Help Africa Schools Programme. What is the programme about? Self Help Africa has been working in sub-Saharan Africa for thirty years when it was established in the immediate aftermath of Ethiopian famine and it has been striving ever since to tackle the root causes of hunger and famine across the continent. Participating schools undertake a programme of fundraising activities to underwrite their travel. Why we need your help? We realise how lucky we are to live in an area not torn apart from famine and which affords us a good education and want to do something to help others as well as learn more ourselves. We have to raise a lot of money in a short period of time and need your help. We are undertaking several fundraising projects to raise money so that we can make the trip including the upcoming Clonakilty Waterfront Challenge, coffee mornings, social media campaigns, school based activities and other initiatives.
