Showing Care through Books

About This Project

We are a group of university students in France. We translating children’s' books into Burmese and Karen, an ethnic Burmese language, and are fundraising to cover the costs of printing 350 copies of each book. They will be distributed to children in the Mae La refugee camp on the Thai-Myanmar border.

Ambition

Simple! With the books, we want to let them know that we are still caring about them. The children there will benefit greatly from this project, due to the limited access of educational assessment standards in the border region.

Books

We will begin with “The Classic Treasury of Aesop’s Fables” by Don Daily, “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” by Judith Viorst. If your donated funds exceed what is necessary to print 350 copies of each, we will select additional books (Please make suggestions of your favorites in the comments section below!) for children in Mae La.

About Mae La Camp

Mae La is a refugee camp on the Thai-Myanmar boarder. It is home of 40,000 Burmese refugees. They have no right to leave the camp, and are prevented from doing business. The residents receive only rice, cooking oil, and fish paste rations. Within the camp, there are many schools for children, but they have very few limited educational assessment. This is what inspired "Showing Care through Book" project.

Use of Funds

$2,500 Goal

All of the funds you raise will go towards the cost of reprinting the translated books. This will be done in Myanmar with our related team in Myanmar, where the printing costs will be lower, so that your funds will go further. As previously stated, once we are able to print 350 copies of first 2 books, children in Mae La Camp will have reading facilities for this year.
