Short film “Symptôme”

Presentation :

We are a group of swiss students passionated by cinema and art. We have done few films together but we want to make a bigger one. This film would look so David Lynch including the problematic of the consumerist today society. Help us to make it possible.

Synopsis (English text) :

A young man takes us in a journey between dream and reality. Boy without future, depressed. Born of a mother who tries to flood her sadness in the alcohol. All day long, dream, sit in front of the old American shows, presenting the utopia of the American families.
Boy is stay all days at home, entailed by his friends in the alcoholism of the student parties. In spite of his18 years, he stays a child who questions on the life without knowing where to go, lost in the system.
The drunkenness of evening, a shock in the head, the shift of reality, an appearance, a woman, a pact.
By the sudden appearance of this woman in his life, he has to face the double face of this character, soft, comforting on one side and nightmarish, sadist of other one. The allegory of consumerist society.

An action compound of two parts. First one, utopian, the dream. And the second, terrifying, the nightmare.
The first part takes place in a set of perfect apartment. Everything goes well, it is the good life. He is madly in love with this woman, who helps him to surmount her problems. A closed door mixed by a more and more strange atmosphere. A boy who increases, who understands the dream and tames little by little the reality. Scenery to scenery, the woman imprisons him into the closed door and becomes more and more aggressive towards him. Nevertheless, he manages to go out of this nightmare which turns out to be nothing compared to which waits for him.
A nightmarish second part, in an incomprehensible universe. The central figure walks in the black, passes as sets in sets, the unpredictable. The woman haunts him. Strange atmospheres. Memories transformed into nightmares. Finally by believing to have escaped the worst, he faces the worst, death. A mental agony which he has planned from the beginning. A last look, a last breath, in the direction of this window far off. A look on himself who previously watched on the other side of the window, of a disturbed spirit, the person dying. Watching himself dying.. the other side of the window.
A movie which is more that only symptom of a mental shock. It questioned our place in today society. A journey in the disturbed spirit of a person. A film which is only the definition of a mental agony. The unconscious man become conscious of his losted mind in the crowd.

Synopsis (French text) :

Un jeune homme nous emporte dans un voyage entre rêve et réalité. Garçon sans avenir, déprimé. Né d’une mère qui tente de noyer sa tristesse dans l’alcool. À longueur de journée, rêve, assise devant les vieux shows américains, présentant l’utopie des familles américaines.

Garçon traîne à la maison, entraîné par ses amis dans l’alcoolisme des fêtes étudiantes. Malgré ses 18 ans, il reste un enfant qui se questionne sur la vie sans savoir où aller.

L’ivresse d’une soirée, un choc à la tête, basculement de réalité, une apparition, une femme, un pacte.

Par l’apparition subite de cette femme dans sa vie, il doit affronter la double face de ce personnage, tendre, réconfortante d’un côté et cauchemardesque, sadique de l’autre.

Une action composée de deux parties. La première, utopique, le rêve et la deuxième, terrifiante, le cauchemar.

La première partie se passe dans un décor d’appartement parfait. Tout va bien, c’est la belle vie. Il est fou d’amour pour cette femme, qui l’aide à surmonter ses problèmes. Un huis-clos mêlé d’une ambiance de plus en plus étrange. Un garçon qui grandit, qui comprend le rêve et apprivoise peu à peu la réalité. La femme l’emprisonne dans le huis-clos et devient de plus en plus agressive à son égard. Néanmoins, il réussit à sortir de ce cauchemar qui se révèle n’être rien par rapport à ce qui l’attend.

Une deuxième partie cauchemardesque, dans un univers incompréhensible. Le personnage principal marche dans le noir, passe de décors en décors, l’imprévisible. La femme le hante. Des ambiances étranges. Des souvenirs transformés en cauchemars. Finalement en croyant avoir échappé au pire, il fait face au pire, la mort. Une agonie mentale qu’il prévoyait. Un dernier regard, un dernier souffle, en direction de cette fenêtre au loin. Un regard sur lui-même qui auparavant regardait de l’autre côté de la fenêtre, d’un esprit dérangé, une personne mourir. Une personne qui est en fait que lui-même.

Un film qui n’est que le symptôme d’un choc mental. Un voyage dans l’esprit dérangé d’une personne. Une oeuvre qui n’est que la définition même d’une agonie mentale.
