Shera (Lion), that's his name for now, he is a survivor and seems to be strong like a Lion. We met him at around 1 am in the night on 20th April 2022. He was badly injured and struggling. We drove to the nearest pet hospital, Thonglor Pet Hospital and they provided him with the first response treatment. This is also when we got to know that it is a male cat around 2 years of age (not confirmed).

We informed them that Shera was a stray and we wanted them to guide us. The doctors and staff were very kind, helpful and open and said that their clinic is very expensive and so it is better that we take him to another hospital, The Small Animal Hospital at CMU (Chiang Mai University). The staff at Thonglor made sure that The Small Animal Hospital at CMU was informed in detail about the case and we headed to CMU.

At CMU they checked Shera and told us that he has suffered head trauma, broken jaw and possibly some injury to the ribs. He will have to be admitted and for the first 3 days he would be kept inside an oxygen box, medicated for brain trauma and any other injuries that show up after the x-rays. He'll then need surgery for the jaw (with or without plates depending on what the surgeon says), and once he's stable we will have to take him home. The doctor was very kind and suggested that we take Shera home fo the night and she'll provide the medication without any charges and we can bring him back the next day in case we decide to help the stray cat.

He looked better in the morning and was breathing without external help and we knew he stood a chance (at least 50-50) and we decided to help him get a second chance. Just before I started this fundraising page we returned home after admitting him to the hospital and the process has started.

We are trying to gather forces from around the world and help Shera get a head-start. Every share and every drop counts. Below is an approximate cost breakdown based on which we are targeting at an amount of $2500 which is about 85,000 Thai Baht. All of the money will go towards his treatment and post treatment care and neutering and any expenses incurred. We are trying to get him adopted and if there is any amount left it will be used to provide him with a start-up kit or donated to a charity within Chiang Mai, Thailand.

I will be updating his progress regularly and sharing the details of the billing and payment to make sure that everyone who donates knows how much money is being spent and where. Everything will be transparent. Here is the updated information about the costs we have as of now:

  • Shera has been admitted and the x-rays have been done, the blood tests are underway and his medication has started and he seems to be easing into the oxygen box. Today's Bill was: 2170 Baht and an advance deposit of 3000 Baht which totals up to 5170 Baht (all paid for)
  • Tomorrow onwards or from day 2 on, the costs will be in the range of 1500 to 2000 Baht a day which will include oxygen box, medicine and associated care. This will be about 2 or 3 days till the pressure from brain is completely released and it's ready for the jaw surgery. (Will be deducted initially from the deposit and then we have to pay and we will be provided the bills.)
  • Jaw surgery:
    • Without plates would be about 5000 to 8000 Baht depending on the condition of Shera as well as what the surgeon says.
    • With plates will be about 10,000 Baht or more, depending on the condition of Shera as well as what the surgeon says.
  • He might need help with his left eye, the side that is badly damaged. (no amount has been specified)
  • Then there will be the daily stay costs post surgery till he is ready to go home. (no amount has been specified)
  • Post discharge, the costs will be dependent on hospital visits and medicines. (no amount has been specified)

Based on the approximates and the knowledge of pricing of medication etc., we are trying for the specified amount just to make sure any extras are covered depending on how the surgery goes and what is the outcome. As mentioned, if there is any money left over after the needs of Shera are taken care of, it will be donated.

We want to help Shera and we are also putting in money to the best of our ability. We have 2 cats at home (Bagheera and Meeha) and do not have extra space for a recuperating cat (some friends have offered to foster in turns). We are still looking for a loving foster home and permanent home as well.

Please help us help Shera.

First Update: Shera is admitted to the Small Animal Hospital, CMU, and as of now we will not be allowed to visit him personally for the next few days. They will give us regular phone updates and we can call them as well, if needed.

Shera is doing great. His surgery was a success. The stitches were soluble. When he left for his foster home he was off any medication and was able to eat on his own.
