I drive through Knoxville, Tennessee daily. I see so many homeless line up and wait for a place to sleep, wash, eat and generally be safe. In such a beautiful city, its sad to see so many in need. So many unable to work as they have know place to call home, to wash up, to wash there clothes or even get basic medical. Its sadden me daily to drive by knowing I can do little. I have been to many of the homeless shelters helping out some who are without a place to sleep, wash or just help get them going in the right direction. I also know in my attempts to help many, we are very short on places for the homeless to stay and get a fresh start. I visited one that was set up so wonderfully that they had a separate section for homeless with children. It truly was a wonderful sight to see. A place where mom/ dad or both could get a fresh start, get a job, more education, medical while still having the time with their children. The home allowed the children to come and actually spend a night from time to time. Meanwhile the parent/ parents got their feet back on the ground. Was amazing to see. So many of the homeless are not " dirty" , "uneducated", " gross", "lazy", etc. Honestly.....would you hire a homeless person who walked through your door with rags on, needing a bath or washing their hair? I bet not. Many of these people simple need the basics in life we all need to get our foot in the door. Many just need the hand to reach out and say " Let me give you a hand" So grateful are they that these a truly the people who would most like give back to the community. I stopped to get gas in Knoxville last week and as I walked into the station, a ragged looking man with scraggly hair and ripped up cloths simple asked me if I could spare anything. I looked at him and replied " I don't have any cash" and I didn't. I had my credit card. He then asked if I could simple buy him a muffin or bread, something. I walked in the store, got what I needed and then went over and picked up a box of donuts and a large coffee. I walked out and the joy that over took this gentleman was more than words could say. He thanked me to know end, he blessed me to know end and sat there with his coffee and donuts like he was at a fest. Such a nice polite man he was. I then drove off. As I was driving home I thought of all that I could do, if only. Yes, that big " if only" I have the heart, I have the knowledge, I have the power, the time and the ability to make a difference. I don't have the money. I am not rich, I am not poor. I am just an average middle classes income home. I need help! I need your money, anything you can spare. I need to be able to purchase/ lease or rent a building that I can turn into a homeless shelter. I need beds, linen, resources , etc. I need the permits, etc. I am presently looking for a building in Knoxville to do this but I can't do it without your help/ money. I can only look, talk and hope people come through. I need your help to get the homeless of the streets. PLEASE, please help ! If for any reason this becomes to much and I can't get enough funding.I will return ever last cent to ever single person that has helped or I will donate every cent to soup kitchens and homeless centers throughout Tennessee. Honestly, I am hoping that won't happen. I need your help to get this going. I will also need help as I get it going, to get it all set up. First I need your money, please !
