Campaign Story
Women’s Rights Initiative Uganda (WORI) has built a shelter to protect women and children who have been violently physically and emotionally abused. The shelter will focus on the health of the victims and their children. It will be the first one in the district of Jinja. It plans to become a safe space for the survivors to heal from trauma and to help them move forward with their lives. In addition, the shelter is planning on having legal aid, psychiatrists, social workers and security staff to aid the women and children. However, the shelter still needs a few touches in order to really start. The money that we are trying to raise is to help build the solar panels and water tanks and to provide basic clothes, mosquito nets and food for the victims. It’s founders from WORI Rose Kigere and Annette Nyonyintono have spent the last four years fundraising for this shelter by baking every weekend, but the money that is raised from this is simply not enough. Please help us try to create a violent free life for the many Ugandan women and children who have been wrongfully and cruelly abused.
