Olivia was scared and confused and didn’t know where to turn. As a single mother of a 3-month old baby girl, she found that she felt that way often. Baby Isabella was in distress, but Olivia could not figure out why. It had been a week since Olivia first noticed that Isabella would not stop crying despite all of her efforts to comfort her child. The visit to the government-sponsored clinic provided her with no answers. She was rushed through with her crying baby, and the people there seemed uninterested in listening to her.

When a friend told Olivia about TOMAGWA, she was skeptical, but she made the appointment anyway. With Isabella in obvious pain now, “What choice do I really have?” she thought.

Stepping inside the doors at TOMAGWA, Olivia immediately noticed a difference. The waiting room was friendly and warm. Clutching Isabella tightly, she walked to the check-in window, where she was greeted with a smile. A few minutes later, she was in an exam room with Dr. Flower, who carefully looked Isabella over. Amazingly to Olivia, Dr. Flower asked her questions and listened to what she had to offer about Isabella’s condition.

As Isabella’s exam continued, Dr. Flower noticed a lump in Isabella’s tiny throat. Calmly, she spoke to Olivia, “There seems to be an area of concern in Isabella’s throat. There is a lump, which might give her difficulty swallowing and breathing if it continues to grow.”

Fear gripped Olivia and tears welled up in her eyes. Dr. Flower reassured her, “We’re going to send her for tests and have her see a specialist. And we’re going to turn all of it over to God in prayer. If you want, we can start right now.” Dr. Flower took the young mom’s hands and together they prayed for peace for Olivia and healing for Baby Isabella.

A week later, Baby Isabella and mom, returned to TOMAGWA for a post-surgery follow-up. The life-threatening lump in Isabella’s throat had been removed and determined to be benign. Baby Isabella was cancer-free! Already Isabella’s disposition had improved, and she smiled up at Dr. Flower as she checked the baby’s throat. “Very nice,” Dr. Flower said to Olivia with a smile. “She is doing just fine now.”

“Yes,” Olivia agreed. “Our prayers were heard and answered! God works in this place.”

“Indeed He does,” said Dr. Flower. “Every single day!”

Young moms and babies like Olivia and Isabella cross our threshold every day. The support you give makes it possible for us to provide them with quality health care, offer them hope, and restore their dignity. Most importantly, together we are the hands and feet of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, carrying out His mission of mercy and spreading His love to the people of this community.
