SOCIAL PROJECT SHARE, LOVE, TRAVEL

GROUP OF 20 VOLUNTEERS TO TRAVEL TO TANZANIA – KILIMANJARO AREA

Our project is called Share, Love, Travel - 20 volunteers from Greece and abroad will travel to Mtakuja village, at the foot of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania from 02/26/2020 to 03/09/2020 to empower 400 children, including 50 orphans, delivering clothing, sportswear, toys for at least 50 orphans, 10 boxes of educational material, participate in the construction of 10 new WCs for the local school and will organise a 3day festival with educational, sports and cultural events to empower the children and women and make them believe that they can change their future.

It's never too late to do what you always had in your heart!

Helena Stamou and Eleni Angelidou, driven by love for fellow human beings, offering, volunteering and traveling, following their voluntarism trip to Tanzania last year, where they saw and experienced the shortcomings of local communities in basic needs andespecially those of the children, wondered what they can do in this direction. When a young man contacted them mentioning that there were 50 orphans in Mtakuja village, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, who needed help they decided to act.

They envisioned and created the Share, Love, Travel Project which includes a group of 20 people traveling to Mtakuja Village in Tanzania from 27/2 until10/3/2020, in order to deliver clothing, annual health insurance for 50 orphans, 30 football sportwear sets,10 boxes with toys and educational materials for the 400 children of the local primary school. The volunteers will also be actively involved in the construction of 10 new school toilets, since the existing 3 toilets cause children to be affected by various diseases which results in them leaving school. The group is in constant communication with the local CBO ‘Willing to Support Orphans’ and the local community who awaits the Greek mission with joy and eagerness!

The goal of the mission is to interact and discuss with the local community issues of their concern, while exchanging experiences and culture through a 3-day festival, where Greeks will get in touch with African music and dance and the Tanzanians will get in touch with Greek traditional music and dances. With the implementation of the activities for the children and women and the 3-day festival, we hope to provide joy, hope and empowerment to the local community, to make them believe that they can change their future.

In addition, on March 1, 2020 the volunteers group will participate in the InternationalKilimanjaro Marathon.

The team of volunteers includes a variety of specialists amongst them languages teachers, robotics instructors, athletes, trainers, doctors, musicians, dancers, photographers, film directors, cinematographers, sociologists, actors, innovation and entrepreneurship specialists and students, who will empower the local community by implementing activities for the 400 school children: educational games, sports games, theatrical workshops, robotics engineering, while for the local women there will be workshops of knitting, macramé, craftsmanship as well as experiential entrepreneurship workshops to introduce them into the basic foundations for a new model of growth and prosperity for their community.

The entire trip will be filmed to produce a documentary film to be released in Greece and abroad, while the methodology to be followed, will be documented and made available to the public, so that other groups from Greece and abroad, who would like to plan similar social projects, can have access to it.

As for the funding of the project, the project will be launched in crowdfunding platforms, while at the same time a plan of fundraising events in Greece, Cyprus, UK, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium has been drawn up, to raise awareness regarding gender equality issues, eradication of poverty and quality education for all children. These are three of the 17 goals set by the UN regarding sustainable development worldwide.

The Share, Love, Travel fundraising activities includes events with African Dance lessons in collaboration with Yeelen – West African Dance & Music company (1/12/19 & 26/1/20), Collective photography exhibition on Africa at TheArtFoundation (TAF) 6-10/2/2020, screening of a film on the topic of Kilimanjaro, Speeches and Lectures about Africa at European Union of Women - Greek Branch, Events for children with toys and clothing as entrance tickets, African Storytelling, School projects and much more.
