Shaping a better future

Hi, my name is Elissar, currently volunteering in Mama Africa Pendo. Coming to Mathare, the second biggest slum of Nairobi, made me realize about the blessful lives we have back at home in France.

Mama Africa Pendo was founded 3 years ago by Mary Njeru, a previous five star hotel manager in Tanzania. Mary came back to her home town believing in the power of change and giving.

“ We might not be able to change the world, but by changing one small life at a life, the world changes” those are Mary’s words and our mission.

Mama Africa pendo has a preschool unlike any other in Nairobi. We welcome kids from vulnerable families and offer them 2 meals per day even if they don’t pay the school fees. As Mama Africa Pendo’s actions are well known in the area, we are being referred more and more kids from local authorities. We started with twelve kids but today we have 35 kids among whom 6 are only sponsored. We are facing financial challenges in rent payment, food cost and teacher’s payment.

Please help us to keep our doors open. Our kindergarten represents a safe and stable environment keeping the kids out of the street and away from moral, physical and sexual abuse.
