Shannon’s Missionary Nursing Trip to Tanzania

Jambo (Swahili greeting for hello) Everyone!

This June I am getting the opportunity to travel to Tanzania, a country in East Africa, to volunteer by providing medical care to poor communities where healthcare is not easily accessible and/or affordable.

After researching various volunteer programs, I decided to work with International Volunteer HQ(IVHQ). In my opinion, IVHQ is the most reputable and affordable program out there. For more information on this awesome foundation, you can visit their website www.volunteerhq.org.

Why did I chose to volunteer ?

Lately, I feel like all we ever hear about is the ugliness throughout the world. So, I wanted to do something that would replace the ugliness with a bit of beauty. As a nurse, I have a specific skill set that I can use to help those that are less fortunate receive medical care. I along with other volunteers will provide treatments to those in need. I can only hope that one day healthcare will be a human right and not a privilege. Therefore, I am doing my part to put my hope into action.

Why am I asking for help?

Those of you that know me know that I’m not usually one to ask for help. I tend to do things on my own. When I made the decision to volunteer, I expected there would be costs for airfare and transportation which I had saved. I never considered the money I would need for program fees, visas, immunizations, etc. So, I am stepping out of my comfort zone and asking you for help. My goal is $2500. Half will be used for the finances I did not take into consideration. The other half will be given as a donation to the medical community that I will be working side by side, whether it be cash and/or medical supplies. Any donation, no matter how big or small, will be greatly appreciated.
