My name is Shannon Hathway and I am 17 years old. I am from the Isles of Scilly, a group of islands off the south west coast of Cornwall where I grew up. I currently attend Queen Elizabeth’s Academy School Sixth Form in Crediton, and I am writing to you regarding a school trip to Borneo that I am hoping to take part in and in the hope that I might secure some help with the funding towards the trip.
In July 2013 we undertake a 20 day expedition to Malaysian Borneo to volunteer in WWF work on the project ‘The Corridor of Life’, and also be part of the rehabilitation of the Orang-utans in the world famous Sepilok Centre. The expedition also includes residing in the local villages at the foot of Mount Kinabalu. Here we will build needed shelter as well as collecting fresh rain water to provide drinking water for the community as part of our conservation work.
The whole expedition is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and I hope to gain many important life skills as well as having enriching experiences that will strengthen numerous aspects of my character.
