Background
Earlier this year, I visited Mumbai on business, and was lucky enough to explore the second largest slum in Asia. It's called Dharavi, and it is teeming with some of the most inspiring people I've ever met - the rappers, beat boxers, and dancers that are empowering the youth of their community.
My friend Vignesh and myself are partnering up to create a group dedicated to supporting and empowering creativity and personal growth within the slum community. He is hard at work on the ground in Dharavi building a community and fostering opportunities for local youth. My charge is to bring awareness of this movement to the US, and be an agent for growth from abroad.
What We Need
Our first push for funding is to attain equipment and event opportunities for youth to learn new skills and cultivate their creative talents. Additionally, we are trying to attain our NGO status, create a web presence, and kickstart a merch program that can continue to fund our efforts.
This fundraising campaign is focused around helping us launch our first website, and purchase basic equipment, provide space, and fund training for our quickly growing group of slum youth.
The Impact
Dharavi slum youth are born into a community that is severely disadvantaged on a global scale. By supporting this effort, you are helping this vibrant community equip these people with the resources and confidence to pursue their dreams.
