Gender based violence has been a struggle for many South African women. This lockdown period was meant to protect majority of people but, the numbers for gender based violence against women and children has drastically increased during this lockdown period.

Many of us are lucky enough to feel safe in our homes without the looming fear of violence or sexual abuse. For those of us who are lucky enough to have that same feeling of safety and security during these uncertain times, we as a society need to offer some sort of relief and assistance to voluntary NGO’s.

NGO’s such as Jelly Beanz and Rape crisis centers around Cape Town are swamped with women and children who need help. These NGO’s are working without insufficient funding to help these women and children in need.

What I am striving to achieve from your contributions is to make a small attempt at helping the women and children reclaim some of the femininity by giving them something so small as a care pack. While this may seem like insignificant items being donated they each have a meaning to a sexually abused women or child.

It’s to help these people in need feel ‘clean’ in a way. A raping takes a lot away from a person, small things an everyday person takes for granted. Small things such as how clean you feel, how much power you have and a lot more.

Each item that I have selected would make a difference to a women or child who needs it on a very small scale but will aid in the progression of the person who receives it.

My care pack will contain

⁃ pads

⁃ Body wash

⁃ Deodorant

⁃ Shampoo

While this might sound like items that won’t provide any help, it aids the women to progress mentally.
