Two weeks ago, I was thinking of establishing a fundraiser for a non-government organization who shares the same advocacy as I do, for my birthday on March 1st. Until I saw this post from a student organization in the University of the Philippines who seeks funding to provide for traditional graduation outfits for all 40 Lumad graduating students from the Lumad Bakwit School in UP Diliman.

Save Our School (SOS) Network and the University of the Philippines opened the Lumad Bakwit School in UP Diliman in 2017 to protect and uphold the right to education of our Lumad brothers and sisters (which I support) who were victimized, displaced and has experienced unimaginable trauma from the militarization and imposition of Martial Law in Mindanao.

As of September 2019, the SOS Network have documented 671 cases of attacks on Lumad schools, 584 of which are documented after the Martial Law declaration in 2017.

Now, there is a total of 40 Lumad students who will be graduating this March 28, 2020, and you may help them by contributing any amount to reach my P10,000 goal, which will:

1. Fund the remaining 8 traditional outfits that our volunteer students from the University of the Philippines will be making for them;

2. The excess money will be used for a small gathering after their graduation on the 28th, together with the SOS Network and the volunteers of the UP ACTS.

People may think that this is but a short term and a one time project. Actually, by securing them their traditional graduation outfits - it may appear less meaningful before our eyes, but such act of kindness will leave an impact in their lives.

(photo above was taken from last year's event.)

The fact that our friends from SOS Network, UP, the volunteer students and the community where they live now welcomed, accepted and fought and are continuously fighting for them has already created so much impact in their lives; impactful enough that they will surely remember it for as long as they live.

Let's continue to be kind to them, help them and support them, as they are all our fellow Filipinos, too.

So yeah. I hope you can donate! Or if not, sharing this go fund me page to spread awareness of the greater cause of acknowledging the needs of our Lumad brothers and sisters.

Thank you very much! I will pray for you all and happy birthday to me!

Cheers,

Guammer
