Campaign Story
All donations will be used to settle the outstanding medical bills and ongoing treatment of sepsis for my father, Vey Cruz
Medical Status
Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that arises when the body's response to infection injures its own tissues and organs. The condition is caused by an immune response triggered by an infection, which typically affects the lungs, brain, urinary tract, skin and abdominal organs. Sepsis usually is treated with intravenous fluids and antibiotics, as well as with medications that raise blood pressure, mechanical ventilation and dialysis. Often, ongoing care is performed in an intensive care unit.
My dad's health began to deteriorate rapidly in October 2016, when a wound appeared on his inner thigh. The wound got infected and spread to his bones. He underwent operation to remove the infection, and his condition took a turn for the worse when three weeks later, he fell and broke his hip. The wound failed to heal even after this second operation. At first, his doctors thought the wound was minor. However a few weeks after, the would started to emit pus. Upon having this checked, we eventually found out about the sepsis and he has been in intensive care ever since. Last February and March, he underwent three operations for the removal of the infected tissue (debridement). However, the doctors were unable to save the leg and had to ambutate his entire left limb last week. My dad’s condition is complicated by diabetes, pneumonia, and kidney problems; he is also being assessed for an angioplasty.
Financial Need
During my dad’s initial hospitalisation in October, my family was able to address the medical expenses - but just barely. By the time this current confinement happened, our financial resources had been completely drained. Eight specialists are now needed to treat my dad (cardiologist, internist, orthopedic, etc.), with the orthopedic’s professional fees alone already racking up to P300,000 to date. He has been confined in the ICU for almost two (2) months now, which costs P80,000 per day. One operation alone cost P200,000 at the minimum. To date, our hospital bill amounts to about Php3,000,000 excluding professional fees. We have not yet been given the minimum cost of his pending angioplasty. He continues to be confined, and the costs multiply by the day. My family continues to raise funds by now putting up some personal possessions for sale, but we know for sure this will not be enough.
A Caring Father and Dedicated Lawyer
My dad has been a sweet and loving father and a good provider for our family. When I was little girl and even as an adult, he would every now and then surprise my mom, me, and my brother with pasalubong just to show that he was always thinking about us. When I would get sick, he would check on me hourly, and bring me my favourite food, no matter how late it was at night or how far he had to drive to get it. He remained a nurturing dad even as I got married, and would frequently visit me and Mark at our home. My dad’s generosity extended outside our family. As a committed lawyer, he would help those who approached for legal assistance by introducing them to contacts from work and and school, depending on the kind of specialisation they needed. He would go out of his way, oftentimes accompanying people personally to PCSO or the Red Cross, to put people in touch with those who could help them the most. During more stable times, he would offer financial help to those around him even before they called for assistance, and without asking anything in return. It has been very difficult for me to see my dad, who was once so strong, active, and kind, helplessly confined to his hospital bed and suffering so much pain. I hope you can help me and my family see him through this painful uncertainty, and towards better times.
Gratitude
Any amount helps at this point, given the huge and growing expenses. My family sends our sincerest gratitude to all those who can contribute. We will never forget your kindness and hope to be of help should you one day find yourself in need. I would also like to be able to thank each of you personally. If you feel comfortable with leaving your name and contact information, I will write you as soon as I can.
