Ocean Missions is a non-profit organisation based in Husavik (Iceland). We sailed from Reykjavik along the west coast of Iceland, stopped in some of the most amazing landscapes along the way, and we reach our final destination Husavik in 10 days.
We have several objectives for this expeditions. We want to rise awareness about plastic pollution in our oceans and of course showing the incredible beautiful nature that Iceland has. During this expeditions we will prepare workshops on board of our boat Opal to teach about sustainable tourism and we are developing a project called "citizen science” where we want to involve as many people as we can to be active towards nature. Iceland has incredible landscape but also very sensitive to massive tourism so is an incredible chance.
Our main goal is education, science, and promote Eco tourism. The main goals we have schedule with the money that comes in through donations are:
1) Buy necessary scientific equipment for some field work during the expeditions.
2) Build and open a eco-mini laboratory in Hùsavik for education & awareness (for locals and tourists).
With this we will then have enough data about the environment, thus, we can monitor plastic concentration, biodiversity of birds and whales. In addition this information would help to inspire people to act towards the oceans.
