Hi Everyone!
Early last year I made a promise to myself: if I ever got myself selected for the US Community Solutions Program Fellowship to work on Women and Gender issues, I should stop second-guessing myself and accept the fact – that THIS is what I am meant to do
This year, as part of that promise to myself, I am committed to launching Society for Equality, Respect And Trust for All (SERATA) as a registered organization. SERATA works on dismantling long-held socially constructed gender roles and promote gender equality by engaging men and boys in partnership with women and girls. I believe this is something new, in Sabah and in Malaysia!
I can’t wait to start working on this full-time – I have applied for numerous grants and pitched business ideas. However, getting seed funding is an uphill battle.
August is my birthday month, therefore I decided to start a crowdfunding campaign to get a kick-start on SERATA’s work! Your generous donation will help to fund:-
- Flyers or brochures promoting SERATA’s work;
- 2 pull-up buntings for display during events and promotions;
- Fees for attending an online course on “Gender And Development” conducted by Human Rights & Justice group to develop extra skills necessary for SERATA’s programs;
- Basic second hand office equipment
For each person who contributes at least USD50 to this cause, I will deliver a special thank you pack including a personal note.
SERATA’s vision is to achieve equal representation and fair division of tasks of both genders at work and in the home to reflect true partnership and respect. As part of this, we have started a campaign called #CelebratingFatherhood on Instagram, to highlight the important roles that fathers play in the wellbeing of a family. Did you know that Malaysia does not have a provision for paternity leave in our labor laws? We want to change that.
As to date, we have featured 10 fathers, which you can view at www.instagram.com/kita.serata
We have big plans for SERATA in the future too, and that includes building allies among men and boys to end sexual harassment and discrimination through talks and activities.
So will you join me in supporting my campaign? Please visit our page at kitaserata.org and our Facebook page www.facebook.com/kitaserata to learn more about this new organization.
Please help me bring my vision to reality by donating now!
Thank you!
