Hi,

We are four students from The Netherlands and Sweden who are taking a minor in The Netherlands together. Currently, we are doing our 12 week internship at Ndlovu Care Group – a non profit organization providing child care services (amongst other services) in the district of Limpopo, South Africa.

Joris House is a disability center within Ndlovu, where wonderful staff are working to bring people with various disabilities a safe and fun place to develop in. Eric, the occupational therapist, is a very passionate and engaged man whose visions are as big as his eyes while speaking of them. The center has a room which is now used as a storage room, but he wants to change this.

We want to help Eric and the rest of the staff at Joris House to create a Sensory room, where all senses can be developed. Our last week (this week!) of our internship, we are currently in the process of planning and purchasing material in order to start creating this room. During our time here, this project has always been in our minds. With time, the plans grew bigger and now that we are going to start, we want to put all of our efforts and creative ideas into this last project.

Many of the children/adults receiving care at Joris House are living with Cerebral Palsy. It is a group of permanent movement disorders where signs and symptoms vary among people. Often, they include poor coordination, stiff muscles and tremors. A sensory room can be used as therapy since all of the senses can get developed through the room and its materials.

We will appreciate all donations and your contribution will give much joy to the people at Joris House! Every amount counts and if any money is left after finishing the room we will give that amount to Eric and his team as a contribution for them to continue their fantastic work at the center.

Thank you,

Susan, Sanne, Jenny and Sacha
