A community lab for innovation and technology

Update posted by SENSORICA OVN On Nov 15, 2016

Over the past 6 years, the SENSORICA Montreal lab has been hosting high-end technological and social innovation. From time to time, the lab becomes a wonderland for young and curious minds.

Kids love tinkering along with mad scientist and hackers. The unbridled creativity and sense of amazement kids bring to the table is something most adults need to reconnect with every now and again. Kids doing what they do best in a science lab is a wonderful sight. You don't believe it ?

Click HERE to reserve a workshop for children ages 6 to 15 on 3D printing, robotics or solar energy.

CAUTION:

We cannot guarantee that your kid will be the same after this experience! Possible side effects: reduced time spent watching TV and playing games, increased spending for mind stimulating gadgets.

Our current economy is agonizing. Our planet is in a dire state, partially because our current economy is unsustainable. But there is hope! The new digital technology, the Internet, allows us to come together across political barriers, to share, to coordinate, to collaborate, to create value in a new way.

The world is changing. And that’s the good news. A new type of economy is emerging, one that is in tune with the new reality, that takes into account the finitude of our natural resources, that creates more justice. People call it the sharing economy, the collaborative economy, the participatory economy, the p2p economy, ...

A few individuals got together in 2010 to work out the details of commons-based peer production. We designed a new system that allows individuals to create value in a collaborative manner, to distribute it and to share the benefits in a fair way. We built the SENSORICA lab in Montreal, Canada, an open lab that gives free access to individuals to develop their ideas in collaboration with others. We builtopen source tools to allow a better coordination and management of resources and processes, to manage supply chains, to facilitate research and development, to streamline manufacturing and distribution. We offered to the world open source technology for scientific research and agriculture. We are training students, we are helping the unemployed and the underemployed.

Our work was first recognized by academics in business management and administration who understand that the world is shifting. Sensorica was the subject of an international case organized by HEC Montreal, a world renowned business school. We have been invited to present in many academic forums and to give workshops to MBA students, who need to learn the new trends. Second, we got the attention of wider communities like TEDxMontreal and OuiShare in Europe. We work with the P2PValue project, funded by the European Commission to design and implement infrastructure for a more collaborative economy. The White House and at the Canadian Government manifested their interest in our model.

What is SENSORICA? An open enterprise. A sharing and a crowdsourcing platform. An open laboratory, a network, a community.

Since 2010 we have been working very hard to built the basis of a collaborative and participatory economy. Our experience is unmatched. We have created infrastructure, new governance, and new methodologies. We want to share all that with you!

We are now asking you to participate in building this new economic alternative. We are asking for your help to scale it. We need to improve the capacity of our lab. We need to improve our virtual infrastructure, the website, the systems we use to manage our resources and our processes. We also want to coordinate with others across the world to replicate our model.

Be part of this revolution!

We guarantee transparency in the allocation of these funds. At any moment you can go to our website to see our financial statements.

Monday, June the 20th, 2016, Jim Anastassiou and Tiberius Brastaviceanu met with the cabinet of minister Bains on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, to inform the Canadian Federal Government of issues related to the emergence of the participatory economy.

This meeting was organized by David Lametti, member of Parliament from Verdun, who is following SENSORICA since 2013. We invited to this meeting John Macdonald from Robco Inc and Dhafir Burhan from eVision, two vanguard companies that already interface with the SENSORICA OVN and are experimenting with new participatory economy practices, as well as Alexandre Bigot from OuiShare Quebec. The composition of this delegation was designed to demonstrate the relevance of SENSORICA in today's transition economy and its alignment with the future.

Our message was very well received. SENSORICA was seen as a "very innovative model for innovation", covering everything from open science, open innovation to peer production. The OVN model, its current reality and its potential will be discussed in the Parliament to create new legislation that will foster the development of the participatory economy. We will continue to help the cabinet of Minister Bains by sharing our knowledge, our experiences, and our opinions.

The invitation to Canada's Parliament Hill comes one year after our meeting at the White House.
