Hi everyone!
My brother Jacob and I are headed to Costa Rica this Thanksgiving holiday. Why you ask? No, not for the pristine rainforests, white sandy beaches, or majestic active volcanoes. Well, not entirely ...
COSTA RICAN PROBLEMS
As you may be aware, poverty, abuse, and alcoholism have left many children in Costa Rica without families and without the love and care essential for a healthy childhood and stable life. Many of these children find themselves sleeping on the streets. Jacob and I want to help, and to do so, we need your help.
WE CAN HELP AS CONSTRUCTION VOLUNTEERS
We have coordinated with the Global Volunteer Network (website) and its in-country partner, Maximo Nivel ("Maximum Level") (website) to make a difference. GVN is an NGO that places people in volunteer opportunities all over the globe. As construction volunteers in Costa Rica, we will "work on repairing or building new homes and schools for orphaned children or for rural villages." The construction work is "physically demanding, including digging, removing dirt, carrying bricks, mixing cement, plastering, painting, cleaning, and various other needs related to construction." All my favorite activities!
BUT VOLUNTEERING AINT FREE
To make this happen, we must pay a program fee, buy flights, get travel insurance, purchase supplies, and budget for in-country transportation. Here is a breakdown of the costs:

In the interest of reducing costs, I have already used personal savings to pay the program fee to take advantage of an early payment discount of $600. I have also already purchased our flights.
We would greatly appreciate any donations you can give to help with these costs and to enable Jacob and I to take on the challenge of helping others that are less fortunate than ourselves. ANY amount helps! Any excess over our expenses that we are able to raise will be donated to the charity in Costa Rica in the form of money or school supplies, such as crayons, markers, notebooks, etc.
AND A BONUS!
Not only would you be helping shelter homeless children in Costa Rica, but this will be a spectacular experience for Jacob and I, and whether you are related to us as family or friends or even if you don't know us, we want you to be part of it! This will be Jacob's first time out of the country, and our first trip together. Also, if you know me, I love construction, and I love helping kids ... and this opportunity will combine both!

Tyler & Jacob, I could not be more proud of you both. This is such a fantastic venture on so many levels. I love you both with all my heart and I pray God's blessings upon you and this venture and especially upon the things He has prepared for you (and prepared you for) ahead. I wish we had the resources to fund this entire trip for you, but since we are unable to do that, I hope this little bit helps and I trust God's provision to send the rest and even more to you.
