Hello World! I am Soundarya Sundari Saravanan, from India studying at Sejong University, Seoul, South Korea, majoring in Computer Science and Engineering. I got shocked when I read that I had been selected to attend (ASIA YOUTH INTERNATIONAL MODEL UNITED NATIONS 2019) AYIMUN 2019. I applied to this MUN-which is difficult to get accepted-as I had experiences with previous MUNs and the main reason is that it matched with what I aspire to be, an “agent of change” which is AYIMUN’s tagline and the focus for this year will be on “Human Security Agenda in The Globalized World”. This MUN represents who I am, an Asian Youth who chose to study in another Asian country and who wants to bring good changes to how this society treats others, as of today. The topic is also important as it deals with Human Security which constitutes how we make our choices everyday. When we go to a huge gathering for an event, we worry for our safety instead of enjoying. And I want to discuss what measures can be used to strengthen security. Not only man-made security threats but how we can protect others from natural disasters. In 2015, a megaflood in my city, Chennai which had the highest amount of rainfall in a century caused our city to become an island and there was difficulty in contacting the outside world, with no proper preparation, people had no food for weeks, no access to medical facilities and there was no early warning of a dam breaking which flooded people's homes. No preparation by the government nor was there proper use of technology available to monitor. After such a devastation I want to participate in AYIMUN'19 to construct an agenda to tackle these issues. This year I was honoured and proud to be a Social Media Volunteer for Global Peace Convention 2019-GPC’19(see picture), in Seoul, South Korea, held in conjunction with the 100th Anniversary of March 1st Movement for Korean Independence. In 1919, this movement was a peaceful protest for Independence throughout Korean Peninsula led by a 16-year-old Girl, Yu Gwansun, a Youth. She took the lead to revolutionize a nation when women were treated at the lowest. Her will and strength to keep fighting against what society wanted her to be is what everyone should learn when they are being discriminated. I was more than proud to be a part of GPC’19, I was able to attend few sessions on Peacebuilding and Korean Reunification, attended by the likes of Former Presidents and Former Ambassadors to DPRK. It gave a real picture on Reunification and why it isn’t a Korean problem but a Global problem. The knowledge I gained from GPC’19 was golden. I can’t wait to attend AYIMUN’19 and use the opportunity to showcase my vision for the world.

I would also like to share that, my great grandfather worked as an indentured labourer in the fields of Malaysia when India was under colonial rule by the British Empire. A part of my family were born in Malaysia. They were influenced by the British to work overseas in promise of “better life” but it wasn’t the case and the British systematically made indentured servitude as a “job” by making living conditions horrible in the land they were colonizing which forced the people to look for better options abroad to feed their families. I even found a record of my great grandfathers’ name and the place he was from in a file that contained list of indentured labourers who went overseas. Therefore, whenever I had a transit stopover in Malaysia, I would feel pain and sorrow.Since I got selected to go Malaysia for AYIMUN 2019, I would like to give my family something to be proud of when they hear the word “Malaysia”. I want to be an agent of change and I am the agent of change. If I get to attend AYIMUN'19, Malaysia to me would bring solace to the pain of colonialism. Mainly, it would give me the opportunity where I can reach my dream of helping the world.

You can support me by donating. I would like to reach the goal by March 15 2019(might extend it) as I need to pay $396 for accommodation. After I pay, I will be allotted a country and a council. AYIMUN'19 Team sent me a document to be used for sponsorship or funding which contains ALL information on AYIMUN'19, please click: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_b6cu7G8RWPvBM1b5...

The funds will be used for:
