I started to meet every week with Korean family friends and speak with them (even though I knew only about twenty words at first), I found a Korean school (Korean School Of Sacramento) to attend in order to further physically immerse myself into the Korean language and culture, and I went on Itaki.com to meet native speakers to have language exchanges. I also started to take Korean classes at my college, Sacramento City College, and I joined the Korean club at my school.
These were my first steps in making Korean not just a language I wanted to learn but also a lifestyle I want to live. I am learning Korean because I have truly connected with the language; a quote that has greatly resonated with me is, "Sometimes the language you don't speak is the one that speaks to you." I believe that rather than searching for a language to learn, I stumbled upon the Korean language and culture, and soon became utterly addicted. In a relatively dark hour of my life I encountered the Korean language, and truly felt as if a missing piece of me was just found. For once in my life, I know what I want; I aspire to learn as many languages as possible to one day soon, become a polyglot career woman in order to, work as an interpreter at an embassy in Korea or work as an interpreter for the United Nations. I think that this study abroad experience will provide me with the tools necessary to be the best Korean speakers for my future dreams.

As you can imagine, embarking on this on this trip depends on financial support. I was lucky to receive a scholarship for the program fees, which does not include international airfare, local transportation, excursions, workshop events, and day to day meals, and books, personal and medical expenses. The program fee does include all tuition and housing. My fundraising goal is $3,000 to cover most of those expenses not included in the program fee. So far, I have been fortunate enough to receive a tuition waiver, and work part-time to help fund my expenses, but this is not enough. I ask for your help in making a donation towards this study abroad program in South Korea. Your contributions will help me complete my university program requirements and will help me take part in life-changing opportunity.
