Campaign Story
**Help our group of volunteers/photographers with supplies reach and document some of the Dakota Access Pipeline protest.**
So you know exactly where your money is going -
Estimated Gas: $350 - $400
Estimated Rental Car/ Insurance: $525
Additional Supplies: $75 + anything we can gather by donation
(rough estimate, but anything left over will go to additional supplies)
Goal - approx $1,000
If
you (or people you know) are presently more uncomfortable with a man
peacefully SITTING in protest than you are with the lack of media
coverage of the historic gathering of nearly 4,000 Native Americans
(over 100 nations represented) STANDING against mace, security attack
dogs, and the obvious injustice of the Dakota Pipeline project, you
should probably reconsider just how "trustworthy", "courageous", and
"valid" your sources for news actually are.
There is a national movement of Native Americans banding together to protest the installation of the Dakota Access Pipeline; a pipeline that crosses sacred burial grounds as well as would make regional water tables vulnerable to pollution should it eventually leak as they commonly tend to do. This pipeline is a human issue; it is an issue for all of those who rely on the drinking water that could be affected by this pipeline - North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois. This issue is about a decision being made toward continued reliance on oil or working in a direction toward the implementation of clean, renewable energy sources. With the recent news of severe water pollution in Flint, Michigan, it has become exceedingly obvious just how much more seriously we need to take the issue of preserving clean drinking water and the dangers of neglecting this crucial resource.
If you can contribute a small amount and encourage others to do the same to help us reach our goal, you will have direct access to someone you know gathering firsthand accounts and images from the epicenter of this historic event. Perhaps you are completely skeptical of the situation and think protestors are just out to cause trouble; helping fund this trip to go see for ourselves and document for you what we find is a great way to see if your skepticism is justified. If we don't reach our goal, we will donate all funds to the Sacred Stone Camp that will be at the site indefinitely.
We are trying to be funded by the
15th and leave early on September 16th, returning September 21st, and
would also like to take a trunk full of donated supplies to those on the
front lines of this protest.
Contributions of canned/packaged food are very welcome! If you're in San Antonio or Austin, let us know, and we can come pick up supplies from you.
