Send Our Mom to College

Hello, and thanks for looking into our project. We are three siblings looking to raise money to send our mother to college.

Our mother, Jennifer, has always wanted to go to college, but for our family it has been near impossible to send her. Our mom grew up in Mt. Ephraim, NJ where she met our dad in high school. They got pregnant very young so our mom was not able to go to college. Our dad was able, and my mom supported him through it and took care of us kids. She moved with him from New Jersey to Atlanta and finally to Memphis where we have lived fo the last 17-ish years.

As we grew up, she constantly gave up her time for us and for our friends. Our parents gave everything they had to put us (3 kids) through any sports, dance classes, music classes, etc that we wanted. Our mom drove us to everything and attended all events, games, practices, and recitals. She did a lot of this on her own because our dad's job required him to travel a lot. She also held a full time job herself.

Our mom also always made sure that our friends had rides to any event/practice/game and would go out of her way to help out other parents.

When our older brother was of age, our parents got him involved in the Boy Scouts of America. Then, when our younger brother was old enough, got him involved as well. For the last (at least) 12 years our parents have given their all to be involved in the Boy Scout Troop and Pack. Our mom served as Den Leader, our dad as an assistant Scout Master, and they both gave up so many Monday nights and weekends that we cannot even count. When our sister was finally old enough, she was able to join as well and our mom took on the greater responsibility of being the Venturing Crew Assistant Advisor.

For many, many years our mother has been volunteering at Cub Scout Day Camps, teaching classes and courses to youth and adults, and volunteering her time every Monday night to make sure that other people's kids were receiving the best Scouting experience she could give. She would spend so much time figuring out where to take the Cub Scouts for field trips, spend her own money on crafts and awards, and put all of her effort into creating a great program. Our Scouting organizations have done many service projects for our community, volunteered at Lebonheur every year, and helped many kids transform into young adults. She has helped not only her own children become Eagle Scouts, but many others as well.

Putting three kids through college has left next to no option for our parents to be able to afford to send my mom to college. She has put it off and put it off for years because she was busy with all of her volunteer work, raising us, and helping others. So please help us send our mom to college. She wants to become certified in Medical Billing and Coding, and maybe go on to get a full degree. She enjoys helping people and working in the health care field, but she cannot get a good, higher-than-minimum-wage paying job without an education.

We are asking for any donation that you are able to give. Our goal is to raise enough money in time for her to start classes by next fall (August 2013) or spring (January 2014).
