My Travel Story

They say that life is all about balance, being able to put effort into areas that enable us to make a difference. Throughout my life, balance was always taught as something that enabled people to accomplish many things in their life. If you were balanced, then you were talented, happy, capable, and intelligent. If you were balanced, then you were successful.

Growing up, I went about my life doing everything I could to achieve some sort of balance, whether that meant going to school, making money, saving that money, going to the gym or even hanging out with friends. Everything I threw myself into, I did it because of what I was taught or what was expected of me.

The pressure to be successful in this life teaches us to only focus on what we choose to do rather than who we are. Yet, the fact of the matter is that knowing what you want to do in life comes after gaining the knowledge and experience of being you. The process of learning about yourself, allows you to learn about others, which then allows you to learn about that world of ours – the one that craves a positive difference and change to make it worthwhile and valuable.

While I've spent a great deal of my time conforming to the impure beliefs of success, I’ve also realized that there is no bigger desire of mine than being able to make a difference. I’ve had the opportunity to work with kids ever since I got my first job as a dance teaching assistant when I was 11 years old and throughout those experiences, I’ve realized that there is no greater or innocent mind than that of a child. In order to make a positive difference, you must teach a positive difference and being able to provide those teachings to the beautiful hearts of South African while also showing them the importance of everything they are able to live for will mean more to me than every dime I’ve ever made.

As rigid as it is for me to use every bit of my savings for this trip, I know it will be worthwhile. As a fulltime student, money is difficult to maintain which is why I have decided to use this fundraising platform to reach out to everyone and anyone who is willing to contribute any possible amount they can and allow me to experience the trip of a lifetime.
