- What are we raising money for? My daughter, Mac, is the first child in our family to be accepted into a four-year university. As you can imagine, we are so proud of her! The problem is, we have four kids and with her being the oldest and the youngest being only 3 yrs old, we have a multitude of bills. I realize that everyone in America right now is struggling, but she has something special and I would hate to have to tell her that she can't go to college because we can't get loans to help pay for it.
- Who is Mac? She's a 19 yr old young lady who spent four years at Rocky Mountain High School. She cheered all four years, and was on the competition team as well. Not only was she involved in school activities, fundraisers, and pep rallies, she took AP (Advanced Placement) courses to challenge herself academically. She currently spends her summers working at the local drive-in theater, but as you can guess, she doesn't make enough to pay for her tuition. When we went to Costa Rica in 2010, Mac was an integral part of donating school supplies, books, and teacher's supplies to the local school. They were all so happy to see us and were so thankful for the supplies, so that they have a chance at learning as well. She is an awesome photographer in her spare time, and donates some of her work to worthy causes or auctions. You can see her work on Facebook, under Mac Thompson Photography so check it out! - How will your money help? Your money will go towards tuition, books, room and board, meal plans, and transportation there and back for the holidays. She is a hard worker and plans on taking a full semester of coursework and a full-time job! For those of you that have tried this, you know that grades usually suffer in the long run. This money would keep her attention on her studies and her free time experiencing community service and other worthwhile projects, such as internships with reputable marine schools and foundations.
- Why should you get involved? What is more rewarding than knowing that you helped a girl reach her dreams of not only going to college to better herself, but also to better the aquatic environment? She plans on studying marine biology and I would be happy to keep you all informed of her progress in school and how much she appreciates your help. How much our whole family appreciates your help! Please don't think that your contributions won't help or go to good use...any amount helps and we appreciate all of the help we can get!
- Why is this an ongoing fundraiser? Because as most of you know, college isn't cheap and she's currently a sophomore with debt from a community college. If we can raise the money, our goal is to have her graduate debt-free. And her master's work is probably going to be a huge chunk of change as well.
- How much are we looking to raise? We know that tuition to her school of choice is close to $25,000 a semester for an out-of-state student. Then add in her living expenses, books, transportation...and we're probably looking at around $35,000 per semester. Hopefully less if we can get her in the dorms. With the cost of plane tickets home for the holidays, we're looking at close to a total of $135,000.00 to finish her education. But for right now, we'll be ecstatic covering her fall semester.
- In Conclusion...We understand how hard the economy is for everyone right now. Which is why we thought long and hard about bringing our dilemma to this format for help. We don't expect any large contributions, although they would be greatly appreciated and not turned away, we believe that every penny counts. So if everyone that reads this donates what they can, we could realistically meet our goal and send our "little girl" to college! Please help, contribute what you can, and help us send Mac to college. Thank you for your time and consideration.
