Campaign Story
Our son, Kent (12), has received a full scholarship to attend the 3-week American Ballet Theatre (ABT) Summer Intensive at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa this summer. We are committed to Kent attending because of the promise he shows as a dancer.
Kent has been a student at the ABT Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy (JKO) school for two years and at age 11 he was selected to dance the role of the child Nutcracker Prince in the 2013 ABT Nutcracker production in New York. (Here is a link to a review of that production that mentions Kent: Review of ABT Nutcracker in Critical Dance.) Last year, he also appeared in the ABT production of Le Corsaire at the Metropolitan Opera House. He is very serious about his training and is contemplating a career in ballet.
As mentioned, ABT has awarded Kent a scholarship to attend the 3-week session in Alabama and we are looking to raise: 1.) the room and board ($1550); 2.) the cost of airline transportation ($1,407) between New York and Birmingham (three round trip airplane tickets, allowing one parent to drop off Kent, and one to bring him back); 3.) ground transportation between Birmingham and Tuscaloosa ($187); and 4.) the 4% cost of using this crowd-funding site ($123).
We deeply appreciate any support you might be able to offer in helping Kent to continue along his path as a dancer.
