Send Karyna to Nepal to care for local children

This summer I am finally bringing my dream to life by joining in a 3 weeks charity trip to Nepal :). This programme is something I have wanted all my life as I am given a chance to challenge myself, widen my world view and most importantly to make my mark on other people’s lives.

My trip will include working on two different projects around the capital city of Kathmandu. I will work approximately 5 hours per day Monday to Friday, with one morning session and one afternoon session.

The volunteer projects are:

1) Teaching

There is a great demand for dedicated volunteer teachers in Nepal, as Government schools are often under-funded, over-crowded, and poorly managed and teachers are often not properly trained. My main role will be teaching kids and ensuring they continue their education as well as tracking their school attendance.
General school duties include teaching English, maths, art, craft and social skills and assisting in creative activities such as games, sports, painting and music.
I will receive guidance in lesson planning, and workbooks to assist my teaching, to make sure that I am providing a fun and yet fully educational experience to inspire the local kids in my care.
I will also get involved in training and inspiring local teachers, so they can pass on their new skills to the local children in the future.

2) Childcare centres

Providing much needed care and attention to local kids, I will be helping out at a day-care centre or orphanage. This will include teaching basic English, such as learning the alphabet, assisting with basic maths, playing games, singing, painting, teaching kids about shapes and colours, playing sports, maintaining growth charts, helping with their mid-day meal, and helping with their sensory development, among other roles.
