Hello there! I'm Ian Dominic Mallillin, a Filipino undergraduate majoring in Economics and Diplomacy and International Relations from the Ateneo de Manila University.

I have been recently accepted to the University of Chicago Booth's Summer Business Scholars Program (SBSP) which will be held this coming July 22 - August 12 in Chicago, Illinois. Having targeted this opportunity since I was a freshman, this great news is monumental towards what I'd like to share to and achieve from the program.

As a rising junior, I knew all along I wanted to be a policymaker. Being exposed to a pro-service environment, I've had that inclination of viewing businesses as secondary to the decision-making process. However, being able to work for several business organizations - such as the Ateneo Junior Marketing Association and AIESEC in AdMU - I hope to rekindle my passion for the business sector.

Coming into the program, I myself had a lot of qualms about the business sector in the Philippines. While I'm not exactly well-versed, I still believe a culture of corruption, apathy, and traditionalism is rampant in many institutions. More so, businesses have been profit-making machines devoid of understanding the plight of the people inside their corporations.

While one summer program can't exactly erase all of these problems, even so consider the task of alleviating these issues as very ideal, I believe that one manager, or consultant, or analyst, can definitely influence the way businesses make decisions in the workplace.

Tying the pieces together, I believe that being a part of SBSP will be a transformative experience that will enable me to reach my goals and impact such envrionment. Through the program, I hope to renew my insights and learn more about general management and leadership. At the same time, while I'll be able to learn more about fundamental business skills, I believe my biggest takeaway will be the values I'll be finding in these settings.

Specifically in my country, I hope to reinstate a new kind of vitality found in the business setting - which with the help of the program, will help me accomplish this mission I have.

Similarly, at UChicago SBSP, I hope to share Filipino values and culture, and be able to share insights that are centered on local and regional issues and problems. I hope to share stories, experiences, key takeaways with my fellow peers. As competitive the selection is, there are only a maximum of fifty scholars accepted per year. As such, I do hope my mini-sharing can help you consider helping me to attend this endeavor.

For transparency purposes, all your donations will be used for a partial of my total tuition fee of $6300.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to message me through [email protected]! I'm also willing to hear your stories and comments as well! Together, let's make a pro-active and friendly space for everyone.

Thank you very much in advance for your support! (All types of support are greatly appreciated!)
