What is Anakbayan?

Anakbayan is a comprehensive mass organization of over 20,000 Filipino youth, fighting for the rights and welfare of our kababayan (fellow country people) both in the Philippines and abroad. Through our work as organizers, we have been able to establish chapters throughout the world, from the US to Australia to Milan to Toronto. It is crucial that we still organize our kababayan for a pro-people future amidst the rise of fascism, militarization, and imperialism. We are one of the many overseas chapters of Anakbayan in the Philippines.

We are a collective of young organizers, cultural workers, students, and professionals who seek to uplift the struggle in the Philippines with our humble contributions, and to develop a greater understanding of the worsening situation there. Two of our community organizers need your help!

What are we doing in Los Angeles?

On November 30 (N30), two of our organizers from Toronto will attend Anakbayan USA's 3rd National Congress in Los Angeles, alongside Anakbayan chapters from all over the USA.

November 30 bears great significance to our movement. It is our organization's anniversary, set on the birth date of Filipino revolutionary hero, Andrés Bonifacio. We use it as a time to celebrate our work, consolidate our members, and plan for our next steps in uniting Filipino youth and students across the world in the fight for National Democracy in the Philippines!

Where is this money going?

The money will be going directly to our travel (including plane tickets, housing, and food). As young workers, we are still not able to pull these funds together ourselves.

Upon our return, we will present our learnings and our thoughts on how to apply it to the Canadian context with our members in Toronto and our friends across the country.

Your donations will contribute to the further consolidation of our organizing here in Toronto as we look to unite with our allies from all over!
