Hi everyone! This summer I have the amazing opportunity of serving Honduras from July 6 to August 3 as a Sustainable Development Intern with Global Brigades.
The mission of Global Brigades is to resolve global health and economic disparities by empowering student volunteers, local professionals, and community members in a collaborative holistic approach to sustainable development and public health.
This internship involves studying a combination of their microfinance, water infrastructure, and architecture programs and how they all come together to improve public health and create sustainable communities in Honduras. I will get the chance to work alongside in-country staff in communities, listening, building, interviewing and conducting research that will increase our ability to scale the impact of Global Brigades. This will involve doing community surveys of individuals, community banking cooperatives, creating educational workshops, visiting grassroots businesses, and providing consulting and reflection on the programs.
The required program contribution is $2500, while airfare the last time I checked was $771.86 for a round trip. That’s as close an estimate I have until I actually book my ticket through their agency. The program contribution covers living costs, insurance, drivers, translators and other expenses of the internship and in-country work.
I've already paid the $250 non-refundable deposit, so I'm committed to going, but I still need to raise the remaining $3021.86. That doesn’t include what I’ll be spending to get my passport, vaccinations, etc. So any contribution you can make to help mitigate my costs is very much appreciated. Thank you!
