Send Alexea to World Leadership Congress

Hi!  I'm Alexea, a 16 year old sophomore attending Saint Joseph Central Catholic in Fremont, Ohio.  I'm the current president for the SJCC Marching Band, secretary for the River Runners 4-H Club, SJCC varsity cheerleader (football and basketball), Sandusky County CARTEENS volunteer, and member of the SJCC track & field team.  I've also been selected by SJCC to attend the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership seminar in early June at Ohio Northern University. 

I've worked hard to develop my leadership skills through various service, educational, and extracurricular opportunities, but would love to hone them further.  The World Leadership Congress would be the perfect venue, but it's a huge expense on my single mom- so I'm going to be hosting a variety of fundraisers including a bake sale and custom-made jewelry.  My ultimate goal is $2,100.00 to cover the program fee and transportation to and from the conference.  Also, if you've got any additional ideas on how to help me fundraise, please le me know!

What is the World Leadership Congress?

The World Leadership Congress is HOBY's annual international youth leadership event!  It's a dynamic leadership program that brings together ambassadors (outgoing sophomore students) from the US and abroad.  There will be an opportunity to engage with thought-leaders in a wide variety of fields, participate in hands-on leadership learning and activities, plus work on various service opportunities throughout the week.  The goal is to inspire students and motivate them to make positive changes in their communities: school, community, state, or even, global!

The 2014 WLC will be held July 19-26 at Loyola University Chicago in Chicago, IL.  The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) has placed WLC on its National Advisory List of Student Contests and Activities for 2013-2014. 

Who can attend the World Leadership Congress?

Only students that have been selected for a 2014 HOBY state leadership seminar are eligible to attend the WLC.  These students are selected by their school based on demonstrated leadership potential. 

What is the cost?  What does it include?

The cost of the WLC is $1,675 for the program fee, plus the additional cost of transportation to and from Chicago, IL.  The program fee includes transportation to and from the airports to the Loyola campus, educational materials, t-shirts, lodging, meals, transportation for all events, closing banquet at Navy Pier, as well as fully trained and vetted staff/chaperons throughout the program duration.
