Seeking Our Home Sweet Home

Hi, everyone. After years of different struggles (me having cancer, my husband having his own health issues, being homeless), we’re finally able to purchase a home. Almost. I say that because we have a good amount to put down, but, still need to be able to get a loan. Currently, our credit is poor & my income is low (my husband is a disabled vet—we’re trying to get him benefits). I say currently, because, both are improving. It’s just not quickly enough.

We’ve been in this studio for over two years. At least, a year longer than we had intended. Better than some situations, but, still far from ideal. For one thing, management is slow to respond, if they even do at all, to concerns. We've been waiting until things had gotten better to get a home. Sometimes, though, that's all a person winds up doing. Waiting. It's time to be proactive.

Besides wanting a good place for us, it will also be a place for animals we foster & adopt. We had been doing the latter, up until the last few years, but, have never done the former. I recently started volunteering at our local animal shelter. I had been putting that off for a long time, as, I also felt with that, I needed to wait for certain things to happen. The other day, I felt was the right time. There are many animals that need loving, nurturing homes. We already have a kitty. He was our first. We adopted him 14 years ago. He’s 19 & going strong. Our place is too small & it wouldn't be fair to him or a new kitty.

We've been looking at homes that are 250k & under, here in Ukiah, CA. We can't make any offers, of course, until we have more funds. Near the south end of town, if possible, as that's where the shelter is. Our preference is a pre 60's home (as long as it's up to code) as they have more character & individuality. Definitely with a porch & a large back yard. We already have 35k of our own funds. We're also working on other ways to build on that. We figure we'd be more attractive to a broker, if, we have, at least, half of the cost for the down. We have a friend, who is a realtor, who will be representing us. The home in the pic is one we've checked out. It doesn't have a porch, but, it does have a large backyard.

If you don’t know us or are more of an animal person, then, please do it for the cats & dogs we'll be fostering/adopting. We want to provide a good home for them & us. Also, I realize GoGetFunding is more like being gifted money, but, we’re happy to pay you back, as, we consider it a loan (let us know if that's how you want to do it).
