Seeing my longdistance love

 It has been almost 2 years since I left the US and my boyfriend behind to finish my school in Germany. Now I am almost done and I would finally be able to spend a lot of time with him before going to college. But I simply can't afford the fligh from Berlin to Colorado.

NOTE: I feel honestly bad about asking for money on a side where there are people with much bigger problems. I do not see my issue as equally important and I would never even dare to ask for money like this I had another choice. So please don’t take me as a spoiled brat or something I simply don’t know what else to do.

About me and my relationship

My Name is Maddy, I am 18 years old and only a few weeks away from my final exams to graduate from High School. I life in Berlin, Germany.  In 2011 I did an exchange year in the USA were I met my boyfriend Stephen.

My organization, yfu (Youth-for-Understanding) uses certain techniques to find the perfect host-family, searching everywhere in the US which means you don’t get any say in where you are going.

So it was pure luck that I ended up in Hawaii.

Stephen and I met in a class called "Broadcast Media" and he said it was love at first sight. When we found out that we were almost next door neighbors we started to hang out a lot and he asked me out on December 17th. We knew I would have to leave at some point but we decided to see how it goes and keep this relationship going for as long as possible.

It has been almost 2 years since I left.

 What happen in these two years?

Christmas 2012 Stephen paid 2400$ for a ticket from Hawaii to Berlin to stay 3 weeks.

9 months later his family moved to Colorado and I paid 666€ to join them on their road trip. I flew to LA where I met up with them and flew back from Denver in Colorado.

What have I done to finance my trips so far?

My mom is okay with my relationship but she does not allow me to take any money from any account that I save up before I met Stephen. My first visit was all money that I got for Christmas 2012 and my birthday in 2013. Additionally my mom took over the other 360€ which I paid back by Christmas 2013. 

I would need to earn money in order to have something that I can save up but because I am still going to school it is impossible to get a job. During the past 1 1/2 years I have written 45 online applications and applied to every store that is within a reasonable area around my school in order to be able to start as early as possible. The answer was always the same: "we need somebody who can also work during the day time! “ I also applied for all kinds of jobs involving promotion work e.g. handing out flyers for the WWF and trying to get people to donate.

I hope I can finally get a job as soon as I am out of school but that will probably not leave me enough time to make enough money for my flight.

What will I do with the money?

The money will go toward paying for my flight ticket ONLY! I will NOT buy anything else with it. The 700€ is just an estimated number assuming that the price might keep going up. If I find tickets that are cheaper then 700€ I will immediately lower the amount of money I want to fundraise. And if I don’t get enough money buy summer I will keep this up and running and till someday I might have enough money for the flight. No matter what happens the money you donate will not go towards anything else but my savings for my flight.
