SECOND CHANCE is a girls education initiative aimed at giving a second chance for completing Secondary School Education to girls who dropped out of school due to pregnancies in Tanzania mainland.

Ever since the government under John Magufuli declared that no girl who dropped out of school due pregnancy will have a chance to continue with education after delivery because the government does not educate mothers, there have been a soar in the figures of girls who regret dropping out of school and praying for having another chance to complete their studies. The government on their part is doing nothing to address this phenomenon.

As a social activist I have been touched by this injustice and decided to reach to a few of them through a village to village visitation to see the real impact. I have noted with deep shock the majority of young girls who are hanging without a predictable future and the type of nation that we are trying to build.

Then came an idea of grooming these girls and linking them with the Institute of Adult Education where they can study up to high school for just three years and then join university. They have all agreed and will be joining in January 2020. The major challenge here is the financial ability for their families, these families depend on peasantry and the situation for them is quiet bad. They can hardly afford to pay for their girls due to the economic hurdles and other pressing issues during rainy season.

THE NEED.

The total number of them is 27, out of these only 16 can manage to raise fees from their families while 11 are lacking. The worst scenario is that out of these 11 needy ones, 8 are the best performers according to the records in their possession and their exercise books compared to the 16 who are able to raise their fees.

The fee, Uniform and Stationery per year per student is US$170.

The total need for the 11 students is US$1,870

.

ACCOUNTABILITY.

These funds will go direct to the needs of the targeted beneficiaries and will be administered by Southern Highland Economic Empowerment Organization, a non-government organization working on the empowerment of women and girls in Songea District in Ruvuma Region in Tanzania.

We will share the testimonies of the beneficiaries as well as their progress at any time whenever needed.
