Hi all! Thank you for visiting my page. :)

This summer (2013) I will be travelling to Cambodia to spend two months with the Seametrey Children’s Village (residential school).

THIS PROJECT IS TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE SEAMETREY CHILDREN'S VILLAGE IN CAMBODIA.

ANYTHING RAISED ABOVE THE INITIAL £700 DONATION TO THE SCHOOL WILL GO TOWARDS THE OTHER DIRECT COSTS OF THE VOLUNTEERING PROJECT (TRAVEL, ACCOMODATION, ETC)

AND ANY ADDITIONAL MONEY RAISED AFTER THIS WILL GO TOWARDS SCHOOLING IN GHANA AND HAITI!

Why? As you may or may not know, Cambodia suffered a genocide between 1975 and 1979 (less than 40 years ago!) which killed almost 2 million citizens.
During that period t
housands of those killed were teachers and educators, normal schooling was forbidden and public schools and universities were turned into prisons and reeducation camps.
50% of the population are under 22 and 3 out of 5 will not complete a primary education.

What is the aim? Our main focus is to run classes for the students over summer, this may be individually or in groups, and to teach the children new life long skills while helping to establish the new school which is opening this September.

The school currently welcomes 91 children from 8 months to 23 years old of which more than half come from an economically deprived family.
Seametrey has been operating in Phnom Penh (the capital city) since September 2003. It was opened by the Seametrey foundation in an effort to fight educational disadvantage in Cambodia.

Where will your money go? As a team of 10 students we aim to raise £700 each for the school which will contribute to a new site being built outside of the city (as Seametrey can no longer afford their current building). Your money will be used for materials, resources, building new facilities, anything which will give the children a place to learn.

Every penny helps to give these children the chance of a basic human right, which many of us take for granted or complain about everyday, while others wish they had... an education!

So.. THANK YOU so much!

Gabriella. x
