This semester, the Theatre Workshop of the School of English, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, is experimenting on the idea of tempests, commotion, crises and storms - both global and personal .

Focusing on Shakespeare’s last play, The Tempest, we are attempting cross-readings of texts (written, oral, visual, etc.) that have either inspired Shakespeare or have been inspired by him. Our aim is to explore some of the main themes they raise (power stuctures, slavery vs freedom, reality vs dream, language, belonging, utopias and dystopias, etc.) through close readings, discussions, games and improvisations.

At the end of May, we’ll stage a modern version of the play which will be presented in our University. The aim of the event will be to share with the public the fresh and insightful ways of understanding the world around us which our readings of Shakespeare has led to.

As our Workshop has no other financial support, we hope that with your help we'll be able to raise money for our operating expenses, and few costumes and set.

Support us to make it happen!
