One Acre Nyasi Campaign is a programme that has found the answer to droughts that were occurring over increasingly short intervals on arid and semi-arid land in Kenya.
The droughts had been causing massive loss of life and livestock as well as destroying communities and livelihood systems. They had resulted in societal disruption and starvation across the region.
Rhode grass was the solution. Rhode grass (Chloris gayana) has higher drought tolerance than other grasses, provides more nutrients and is easier for farm animals to digest.
To mow the grass we use sickles. This process is not only slow but causes a lot of back pain.
The scythe is a truly versatile and environment-friendly tool, ideal for smallholders for cutting hay and for trimming closely around trees. Scythe harvesting is significantly faster and much healthier for the mower’s body than harvesting by sickle.
We seek help to acquire scythes for more efficient mowing.

This is a great campaign for a worthy cause! I'm in touch with the people organising it, and they truly have the farmers' best interests at heart. The money will indeed be spent on acquiring scythes to make the arduous work of harvesting considerably shorter and considerably easier on the back.
