Scott’s End of Life Expenses

Our dear friend and brother Scott Lenhart has experienced some incredibly severe complications due to a latent AIDS diagnosis. Sadly, Scott has contracted a life-ending brain infection and his prognosis is terminal. Tommy Rapley, Scott’s wonderful partner, has brought him home from the hospital and has been at his side trying to provide basic human comfort and love during this overwhelming time. Scott's health insurance covers only a portion of his end of life needs, and Tommy has been working overtime to try to make ends meet, and doing an incredible job as caregiver.

None of us know how long Scott has left— it could be months or weeks. It's very likely only days. The goal of this campaign is to provide financial assistance for an unknown amount of time for Scott’s in-home care, and especially to alleviate the huge financial burden that will follow on the heels of Scott's death. Funeral expenses, travel expenses for family, and some of the costs that will fall to Tommy as he prepares for this transition. And some of the costs that will rise, unpredictably, out of grief. We want Tommy to be able to take care of himself, to turn down a gig, if that's what he needs, and take time. To make house payments as the sole earner, to repaint the bathroom, to see a counselor. If that's what he needs. We want to help take care of our friend, and we want Scott to know that our help is in place before he goes. During a devastating emotional period like this, no one should have to shoulder such a monumental financial burden, and no one should die feeling like they're leaving a burden behind. As a community of people who love Scott and Tommy dearly, we can make things easier for them.

In the case in which there is more money given than is needed, Tommy plans to donate the surplus to an organization that helps those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in honor of Scott. We'll keep you updated on that. Please help us make that happen. As this incredibly gentle and loving man prepares for the end of his life, let's show him how much we love him. Let's assure him that there are so many of us who love Tommy and are here to help him. Let's make things easier for them.
