US$5,006.00raised of $5,000.00 goal goal
The SciCan Sales Team will be traveling to Costa Rica in February 2014 for our National Sales Meeting. A portion of this trip will be spent paying it forward. We are raising money to build a roof over a playground at Escuela Inmaculada. This playground was a previous donation by SciCan, LTD, but due to a long rainy season in Costa Rica, it is being underutilized.
We are asking for your support to achieve our SciCan Sandbox Project in raising enough funds to provide a shelter for the children of Escuela Inmaculada to enjoy a safe outdoor area while at the school.
Escuela Inmaculada is a school in one of the poorest areas near Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. There are 670 students in total. All of them eat lunch at the school as part of a subsidy program. The Inmaculada area is very poor with a lot of drugs, prostitution and poverty. This school has done a great job to educate, feed and develop programs to learn and sustain their programs at the same time. They developed a recycling program called "Club de amigos". Here the students are taught to create crafts with items that are recycled in the community such as pop/soda can tops, plastic bottles or paper. They create beautiful items and sell them to raise money to keep the school going. In addition, they encourage dancing, singing, speaking and all art forms as well as learning English. The principle is very passionate about the school and the children are learning and succeeding in their life despite their surroundings. The school is a great inspiration to many.
