Schwab Family Donation

If you received a link to this page, then you have learned that Brad's mother passed away this past weekend.

Her obituary lists that in lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation to The Reading Connection literacy program.

Some of us decided that the best course of action in a situation like this, is to send flowers but then to also include a note stating how much of a contribution his close friends donated to the charity his family chose.

The card will say "[From] Friends of Brad, we have donated $xx to the Reading Connection Literacy Program."

Everything from this fundraiser will go directly to the charity, and the flowers that accompany it will be a little more modest than if we all chipped in exclusively for them, but still appropriate for the situation.

If you do not have a paypal account but have a friend in the area who does, naturally feel free to give them a cash or check and let them work out the details.  Pooling physical money together and having one person donate all of it at once is another way to streamline the process.  Alternately if you have a unique situation where you wish to donate either directly to the charity's site or just not through this here, e-mail me and let me know and I'll still add the total to the card.

The deadline for this is Friday because the visitation service is on Saturday.  The card isn't a receipt of the total amount or anything, but visitations are to both honor the deceased and provide comfort for the bereaved and hopefully this is a non-intrusive way to productively let Brad know that we care about him and have nothing but the deepest of sympathy.

If circumstances prevent you from particpating in this in anyway, Brad would clearly understand and still appreciate your friendship after things have calmed down.

Of course, please feel free to share this with any close friends of Brad that may not have heard, or those that wish for some outlet to let him know we care.

If this is the only way most of us can express sympathy for Brad during this tough time, then hopefully it gives him and his family a modicum of comfort when it is all over.
