Tanzania is a beautiful country beaming with culture and wildlife. And lately, Tanzania’s government have made great advances in recent years when it comes to education. There are more children attending schools now than ever before- around 96%. However, due to this, it has also greatly impacted the quality of education provided. With so many children now attending school, there is simply not enough funding nor resources to cater for everyone. Many of the classes within their schools are highly overcrowded and lack the resources and materials needed to provide everyone with a proper education. Some of the classrooms do not yet have proper flooring and instead, the children learn on mud floors and some even outside due to there not being enough room or desks. This has resulted in the vast majority of children not receiving enough time and dedication in order to succeed and with many being taught in unfinished or dilapidated schools.

With tourism being one of the major industries within the country, the ability to speak English greatly increases the opportunities for children to go on and gain meaningful employment in the future, which is why it is important that they be given the right number of time, resources and dedication.

As some of you may know, I will be travelling to Tanzania at the end of the month to volunteer and work alongside local teachers in teaching children their literacy and numeracy. I will be working to plan and creating lessons to provide children with new learning experiences. However, as the schools in Tanzania are already lacking so many resources, the children will still be limited from having these new experiences.

To provide them with the resources, it was my intention to buy these items in Tanzania as they are cheaper to buy in there than here in the UK; and that by purchasing items there, it helps with their local economy. This is why I am currently trying to raise some funds to bring over to Tanzania- to buy necessary items that at least 65 school children (the number of students in one class alone!) will need for their studies- items such as notebooks, papers, pens and pencils, colouring books, and workbooks.

It will be really good to provide these children with the same opportunities and resources that a lot of the children here in the UK have and enjoy. I hope to see the excitement in the children's faces as they recieve new notebooks and pencils, and the enthusiasm they will have in learning after recieving their new gifts.

All of the donations raised will go directly to buying school resources, which will all then be distributed to the school children of the Soweto Government School.

If you aren't abe to donate at this time, please pass this along to the other people in our community.

Thank you very much!
