My name is Timothy Matthews from Trinidad and Tobago and I have been accepted to the City University of New York. I am in need of assistance for tuition and living expenses. As far back as I can remember, I have been applying and accepted to colleges to do what I love, but I have never been able to attend because of my limited financial status. From doing SAT's right after High School, which later became obsolete subsequent to finding out the costs needed to cover tuition and living expenses, it later lead me to applying to a local accredited university in the hopes of transferring my credits, to do what I intended, as it is not available in it's entirety in my country. In the middle of my Bachelor's degree, I completed applications for two colleges, which included City University of New York. I was accepted but again unable to attend the school because of my limited financial status and failed attempts of sponsorship. I later made the decision to stay in my country, complete my Bachelor's Degree, to later apply for my Master's Degree. I successfully completed my Bachelor's Degree, with honors and have been accepted to enroll in a Master's Degree program at CUNY.
So what's different? Throughout the couple of years I've spent pursuing higher education, I've learnt, grown and adapted to a various amount of environments. I've been through and still going through trials that are somewhat responsible for the person I am and am becoming. It has become the fuel I use to keep me motivated, because every day it's easy for us to wake up and stop believing, as it is probably one of the most easiest things for us to do. So why do we believe in anything everyday? Whether it's supernatural, a religion, a dream or a goal, they all have one thing in common, and that’s a path, a path determined by the choices we make throughout our life.
Throughout my life I've grown to understand that purpose comes before motivation. For those who seek and find purpose, only then would one find reason for being motivated, thus, a bigger reason to do it, and for me, it's music. Music for me is the highest art form of all arts. From that one melodic line or lyrical line that can change the motive of a person or even inspire them. There is a saying that states ; “If every day you wake up and that "thing" is the first thing you first think about, then that’s what you're meant to do.”
As a writer, musician and educator, I plan to work my way up into the sectors of the music industry, innovate and coin new musical ideas as well as produce musical and rhythmic research, all while being a performer and building TIRM Industries; a business that corresponds to the affairs of the music, entertainment, publishing and production industry. Help me along this path by donating any amount you can. Thank you
